What is the Keep Cruelty History campaign?
The Keep Cruelty History campaign was launched in September 2009 by the League Against Cruel Sports. It aims to highlight to the public that some politicians want to bring back hunting with dogs and show MPs that three quartes of the public want to keep hunting banned.
The coalition government have started the process to bring back hunting and MPs will be asked to vote.
We represent the majority of the public who believe that animals should n ot be harmed or killed for sport.
-
What would it mean to animals if the hunting ban was repealed?
A repeof the hunting ban would mean that it is no longer illegal to chase and kill a wild animals with dogs for sport. This would not just mean traditional fox hunting would come back, but also deer hunting, hare hunting and hare coursing too.
-
When will the vote on repeal be held?
The most honest answer is that we simply do not know, but it could be within weeks or may be in the next few years. We must ensure we are ready at any time.
-
How can we stop the removal of the hunting ban?
The most effective way in which we can prevent the hunting ban being destroyed is to make sure that MPs are aware that the Hunting Act does work and that the vast majority of the public want to see it remain in place.
Our campaign has brought those who will not stand for cruelty to animals together to stop this. There are a number of ways you can help the campaign, including emailing your MP via this website. Find out more>>

Is the Keep Cruelty History campaign working?
Yes. Initially those in favour of bringing back hunting thought that this would be an easy win and they have been surprised. The campaign has been widely praised by the public and politicians, even winning an award.
From the League and its supporters contacting MPs we know the voting intentions of over 95% of MPs which tells us that at the moment the hunting ban would narrowly be kept in place.
We must also ensure that MPs are aware of how many of their constituents do not want to see the Hunting Act repealed. If there is a vote to repeal the Act then it is vital that MPs know the views of their constituents before they cast their vote.
-
Why is the League the best organisation to deal with this issue?
As the primary charity concerned about the cruelty to animals in the ame of 'sport' it is up to the League to lead the campaign against a repeal of the Hunting Act.
The League achieved the initial ban on hunting and has repeatedly helped protect animals through its investigations and campaigning work. The League is seen as the measured voice of the majority which the media and politicians will deal with.
We work with a number of other charities and organisations concerned about animals welfare but as our focus is on the use of animals in 'sport' we rightly lead the way in this debate.
-
How are you funding the campaign?
We don't receive any government or lottery funding, and we rely on the generosity of our supporters. We are honoured that some of our supporters choose to remember us in the Will, and this is a key source of funding for us.
